Micro spy remote

Today i will review a funny thing listed at DealExtreme as

Mini Multifunctional Remote Controller Black. It also can be gray (as on the picture).

It's an IR remote control (with keychain) for various electronics.
This would be useful if you annoyed by sound/TV set in a cafe or bus or whatever :)
So you can turn it off, or set volume lower.

There's a list of supported electronics on the back

So, for $2,34 you can get an amazing present for friends or this will be a useful toy for you.

The truth about a chinese PMP

I already wrote about the PMP i got from DealExtreme.

So it's time to tell what's the thing it is.

Audio player
- Sound quality is good. Maybe too good for this thing.
- Earphones are good too. 32 Ohms
- Built-in speaker sux. Like any other built-in speaker. Use earphones guys.
- Plays mp3, wav, wmv.
- has 6 equalizer presets: normal, dbb, rock, jazz, pop, live
- (!) Does not remember playing position, playing song.
- (!) Can't scroll playing position fast

Video player
- plays mp4, 3gp rather good.
- (!) can't remember playing position.
- (!) can't scroll fast.

DV
- rather good (as almost any other mobile phone cam)
- 160x128 and 320x240 video size
- quality: high, middle, low
- effects: normal, negative, relief, binaries, sepia, blackwhite, shade shot

Camera
- photo size: 320x240, 640x480, 1280x960, 1600x1200 (i wonder how 300KP camera can handle last two sizes, maybe interpolated....)
- rather good quality: you know, it's better than Venus V900 camera. And faster, too.
- quality: high, middle, low
- something called "2D" and don't work. no idea what's this
- same effects as DV
- (!) you can't set up white balance, and EV+/-. it's automatic.

Picture Viewer
- no questions. usual pic viewer

Calculator
- simple calculator

Notepad
this device is really lack of touchscreen or keyboard. it's hard to pick texts symbol by symbol :(
using 4 keys jeypad.

Dictionary
- English-Chinese. LOL.

Ebook
You can read txt files. But... English & Chinese only... No other languages. :(
No utf-8 support, i mean. FUCK.

Game
NES emulator.
- (!) you can't set volume. it's always too fucking loud
- (!) FPS is slow.
- emulation quality: average
- (!) some cool features does not work. for example: double-left, double-right button hits. In some games like Battle toads, Jungle Book, it's really needed.
Well, some pc emulators don't have this feature, too.
- (!) you can't save game states. :( really suck.

SD support
- supports SD card up to 2GB

ATTENTION! This device has too low USB transfer rate. It's about 300 KBytes/sec and i think it's too slow. TOO FUCKING SLOW. When you upload a 250MB video, wtf!? You should wait 15 minutes.... This sucks. This always sucks, whether you use internal PMP memory or SD card. I can't understand how they can make a 2GB device with so fucking slow USB transfer rate.... :(((

Allright then. Anyway it's price ($38) makes me to forget about it's contra's. :)

Venus V900 review.

Well, actually this was my first gadget from DealExtreme, I bought this because it was interesting to test this phone. Nowadays I use it every day. :) It's really good phone.

At DX this phone indicated as
V900 2.1" Touch Screen Dual SIM Dual Network Triband GSM Cell Phone (900/1800/1900)

Shortly about the phone.
- It's cheap, about $55
- It has dual SIM card slots (but anyway i couldn't test this feature because i have only one SIM). This means you can use both SIMs simultaneously (stand-by both SIMs)
- Touch screen feature and stylus
- SMS, MMS ability
- photo camera 0.3 MP, instead of indicated 2MP (!)
- microSD slot with 256M tflash card
- FM radio, sound recorder, audio player, video player(avi,3gp), video recorder (avi).
- Bluetooth
- Java not supported
- built-in games (Mahjong, puzzle)
- Calculator, calendar features

What's in the box
- the phone
- charger with USB cable
- 2 Li-Ion batteries 1100 mAh
- Earphones (hands free headset)

The phone itself was smaller than i thought, similar to NOKIA 1100, just a bit larger.

The speaker is so fucking loud i set it to only 2/6 of it's power :)

I liked the FM-radio. It can store up to 10 stations :D and has a pretty cool receiver.

The supplied earphones have a good quality. They are also a "freehand set" with a microphone.

There's no any driver supported, but they are not necessary (i guess) because the phone recognized as two flash drives. First drive as built-in memmory (about 780K), second as tflash card (if inserted).

You can easily transfer diles from PC to the phone and back, both on Windows and Linux.

The vibration does not work at all, i don't know why. This is a production fuckup, i guess.

You can set custom MP3 phone rings, upload them to the tflash card or built-in memory.

Also there's a book reader, supported Western, UCS2, UTF-8 encodings. You have to upload txt files to the Ebook directory on the tflash or memory.

Radio and player volume are regulated by pushing * and # buttons.

The camera photos & video quality is shitty, and dark :( But sometimes you can make a satisfying photo. It's enough for me, I think.

This phone has a funny feature called "Voice changer" with 8 presets. This is for those who do not want to be recognized during the conversation ;)

Well, i gotta say that this phone is OK because it's too cheap for it's features. I like this phone, really :)

Red Light Dot-Matrix Stainless Steel Wristwatch

When i saw this watches, i immediately wanted to buy them :) It's sooo "vintage". It's big, it's solid, it' stainless. Like Terminator T-100, yknow. It has a red light dot matrix display that can show current time and date upon pushing top right or top left button. I liked them very much.

It arrived without any box or manual. But i know how all such watches work. Date and time can be set by pushing both top/both bottom buttons :)
Push and hold upper left and upper right at the same time to set time and 12/24h
Push and hold down left and down right at the same time to set date, month:day

How does it work (YouTube Video) You have to push top right or top left button to make the display on. It has some dot matrix effects like scrolling, explosion etc. I think it's funny. Maybe the effects are slow a bit, but i liked them

You can buy it at DealExtreme $10.90
